I have a Will and Trust that were created a long time ago, are these documents still valid?
While it is likely that these documents are still valid, it is important to review your documents every one to two years to make sure that there have been no significant changes to your assets or family situation. Some events that may affect your Will and Trust include the birth of a child or grandchild, death of a family member that is named in your Will or Trust, changes in the health of your spouse or beneficiary, increase or decrease in personal wealth, selling or purchasing real property, refinancing your home, moving to a different state or country, divorce and marriage.
Having a Will and Trust that is updated and accurate will make things much easier for your successor trustee in the event of your incapacity or death. Always keep your estate planning attorney informed of these changes and any change in your home address or phone number.
